Can’t Decide on a Wedding Dress? You’re Not Doing Anything Wrong
You thought you would know.
You would put on the dress, look in the mirror, cry, everyone would cry, and that would be it.
But instead, you have tried on beautiful wedding dresses. Maybe you even have a favorite. And you still aren't sure.
First, we want you to know something:
That is completely normal.
Finding your wedding dress is a big decision. It is probably unlike anything else you have ever shopped for. You are choosing what you will wear for one of the most photographed, emotional, and memorable days of your life.
Of course you want to feel sure.
Most Brides Don't Walk In Knowing Exactly What They Want
If you feel like other brides somehow "just know," the numbers tell a different story.
According to The Knot's 2025 Real Weddings Study, the average bride visits two bridal stores and tries on about seven wedding dresses before making her choice.
And research from The Knot has previously found that only 16% of brides start shopping knowing exactly what style they want.
So if your Pinterest board said one thing, your first appointment taught you something completely different, and now you're wondering what to do next?
Welcome to wedding dress shopping.
You are learning as you go.
Sometimes More Dresses Aren't the Answer
This might surprise you.
When you are unsure, your first instinct may be:
I just need to keep looking.
Sometimes you do! There may be a silhouette, fabric, designer, or style you haven't seen yet.
But sometimes trying on more and more dresses actually makes the decision harder.
Researchers call this choice overload. Studies have found that when a decision is already difficult and you aren't completely sure what you want, having more choices can make it harder to decide and can even lower your confidence in the choice you make.
Think about what happens after several bridal appointments.
You liked the neckline on Dress A.
The train on Dress B was incredible.
Your mom loved Dress C.
Your best friend loved Dress D.
Dress E looked amazing in pictures.
But you keep thinking about Dress F.
Now you're trying to build one imaginary wedding dress using pieces of six real ones.
That's exhausting.
And it may be a sign that you don't need another 20 dresses.
You might just need some space.
Pay Attention to the Dress You Keep Thinking About
One of the most helpful questions we can ask an undecided bride is:
Which dress are you comparing all the others to?
You may not have had a huge emotional reaction when you wore it.
You may not have cried.
Your family may not have cried.
There may not have been a movie moment at all.
That's okay.
Sometimes "the one" is simply the dress you don't want to take off.
Or the one you keep looking at in pictures.
Or the one every new dress has to beat.
Or the one you can actually picture yourself wearing when you imagine walking down the aisle.
That matters.
Try Your Favorites Again
You are allowed to come back.
In fact, sometimes a second appointment feels completely different from the first.
The first time, you were taking in everything at once. The dresses. The mirrors. Your body in a wedding gown. Everyone's opinions. The excitement. The nerves.
The second time, you already know the dress.
Now you can simply experience it.
At J. Andrew's Bridal, we would be happy to welcome you back to revisit your favorite gowns. We can also show you new styles based on everything you learned during your first appointment.
You don't have to start over.
We can start with what you already know.
Consider Coming Back With Fewer People
The people who love you want to help.
But even wonderful, well-meaning people can make a big decision feel bigger.
One person loves lace.
Someone else wants you in a ballgown.
Someone thinks you should show more.
Someone thinks you should show less.
And suddenly you aren't listening to yourself anymore.
If that happened during your first shopping experience, try something different the next time.
Bring one or two people whose opinions make you feel calmer, not more confused.
Or come by yourself.
Yes, really.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with trying on wedding dresses alone.
A quiet appointment can give you the chance to look in the mirror and ask:
Do I love this?
Not, "Does everyone else love this?"
Just you.
And sometimes that is exactly what a bride needs.
Stop Looking for a Feeling You're "Supposed" to Have
We need to talk about the crying thing.
You do not have to cry to know you've found your wedding dress.
Some brides cry.
Some laugh.
Some stare at themselves.
Some immediately start talking about shoes.
Some become incredibly calm.
Some say, "Yep. This is it."
Your reaction doesn't determine whether you've found the right dress.
Instead of waiting for a magical feeling, ask yourself:
Do I feel beautiful?
Do I feel comfortable being seen in this?
Does this feel like me?
Can I picture myself walking toward my person in it?
Am I excited to put it back on?
And maybe the biggest question:
If someone else bought this dress tomorrow and I could no longer have it, would I be disappointed?
Your answers may tell you more than tears ever could.
Give Yourself Permission to Make a Good Decision
There will always be another wedding dress.
Another Pinterest post.
Another Instagram Reel.
Another new collection.
Another dress you haven't seen.
You cannot try on every wedding dress in the world before choosing yours.
And you don't need to.
The goal isn't to prove that no other beautiful wedding dress exists.
The goal is to find the one that makes you excited to stop shopping.
If You're Feeling Stuck, Come Back
If you have already visited J. Andrew's Bridal and left without saying yes, we hope you know that we aren't disappointed.
We understand.
This is your wedding dress.
We want you to feel good about your decision.
So if you're still thinking about one of your favorites, come see her again.
If nothing felt quite right, let us take what we learned during your first appointment and show you something different.
Bring a smaller group.
Bring one trusted person.
Or come completely by yourself.
Our stylists can slow everything down, narrow the choices, and help you figure out what you actually love without adding more noise to the decision.
With more than 500 wedding dresses at J. Andrew's Bridal, there are plenty of options to explore, but our job isn't to make you try all 500.
Our job is to help you find yours.
And if it takes another appointment to get there?
That's perfectly okay. Text us 833-915-2368 or call 770-487-5680 to get your next appointment scheduled or book online if this is your 1st time shopping with us.
